Dearly beloved, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we embark on a spiritual journey that takes us through forty days and night of waiting upon the Lord. Note that forty days of keeping vigil with the Lord is a biblical principle. Many Old Testament patriarchs observed it as they launched into their destiny fulfillment. Our Lord Jesus Christ is another example of the importance of forty days waiting.
This period is a special time of self-reflection and spiritual build-up. It is a period of deep calling unto deep. By the grace of God, yearly also, different topics (focus) are examined (as they affect our lives) and this year, we shall be looking at the issue of inheritance. This is because many believers are journeying through life just as the Bible predicted like a prince that walk on foot while servants ride on horses (Ecc.10:7).
Can you notice the role reversal? The prince is supposed to be riding on horses but if he is unaware of his inheritance, it is likely that he will not enjoy the benefits. Many believers are in this situation. Due to one reason or the other, they are not riding on horses but trudging through life on foot. They have either lost their inheritance like the prodigal son and do not know the way back home or they are unaware that they have an inheritance. Our heavenly Father is the owner of everything in the visible and invisible world. When He created the First Pair He gave them the mandate of inheritance, handing everything over to Adam to name and to care for. Unfortunately, Adam lost this great benefit. But when the Second Adam (Jesus Christ) came, He brought with Him the restoration mandate. An inheritance is God’s gift to man. Just as a good man will leave an inheritance to his progenitors (Prov.13:22), so also God has not left us to fend for ourselves but rather has provided everything needed for easy living.’
Notice some people in the society; although you may be of the same age and educational background with them, their quality of life with yours may not be the same. While many people struggle to get to where they are, some people just took a stroll because someone had made it easy for them by leaving them an inheritance. The essence of inheritance is to enhance the performance of the incoming generation. Can you see why it is very important for you to possess your inheritance? But just as Adam and Eve forfeited their inheritance when they handed it over to the devil back in Eden, so also unfortunately , we also forfeit our inheritance to these setbacks: · Failure to search for it · Failure to separate oneself from sin Wrong environment · Wrong opinion · Lack of diligence · Lack of perseverance ·
Failure to understand timing The issue of inheritance is so important that much will never be accomplished without it. While our emphasis in this book is positive inheritance, we should also take note of negative inheritance because just as a man can inherit good heritage so also can he inherit bad heritage. Modern medicine has informed us that majority of the diseases in existence today are passed down; this means if your mother has breast cancer, the probability that you will have it is 50% and the probability that you will pass it to the next generation is also high. The question now arises, what can I do to attract my good heritage and what can I do to distance myself from evil heritage? This question and many more like it are the reason why God gave us this book. It has been specially written to tackle the subject-matter of inheritance from different perspectives. You will learn new things from it and if you endeavor to practice what is preached therein, you will notice remarkable changes in your life.May the Lord open your eyes to these deep secrets and may you be burdened to walk in your inheritance.
